Battlestar Galactica soundtrack review

I wrote up an extremely self-indulgent review of Intrada's Battlestar Galactica.

Hope you can take a moment to read through it.

Party Scene

He couldn’t stop staring.

The hair- curly, blonde, unkempt yet somehow perfectly in place.
The eyes – sparkling, devastating, green.
The smile – friendly, disarming, and blinding in its intensity

She had a coterie of people around her, mostly male, all of them vying for a just a glance.

He looked at his scuffed shoes, his threadbare suit. He looked again at the invitation impossibly sent to him. Yes, it definitely had his name and address. But he was just a writer, a lowly writer of lowly works, the most crass science fictional trash that a low rent soft-porn publishing outfit could produce.

Yet here he was, drink in hand, staring across the room at the most gorgeous woman in the world.

He drained his drink in silence, looked around at the rest of the beautiful people, none of whom had done as much as smiled at him the entire hour he’d been there. And him, certain it was all a terrible mistake, too shy to even ask for a plate of shrimp.

Enough. He shoved his hands into his pockets and headed for the door.

“Excuse me.”

He felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned and struggled for air as he stared into her eyes. They were even more amazing up close.

She handed him a book, a worn paperback. It was “Slime Slaves of G’harrn,” his first novel.

“Would you sign it for me?”

All he could do was nod.

She took him by the hand and led him back into the party.

Unbillable Hours

My wife gave me a Kindle.

I know!

So one of the things that happened next was that I started trolling around for free content. I'd already accumulated several ebooks that I transferred onto it (things like Shatnerquake, From the Ashes of Courage, Transgression, Clash of the Geeks and more) but I decided to also glance around to see if there were any interesting free things to add. I ran across a book called Unbillable Hours by Ian Graham, which was temporarily available as a free download, and it looked interesting, so I got it. Today, it's not available for Kindle at all.

Unbillable Hours: A True StoryI started reading it and got sucked right in. It's sort of a cross between a John Grisham thriller and The Associates. I loved it.

It's a memoir of a young lawyer who's wined and dined by a giant LA law firm and who subsequently gets sucked into the mind-numbing drudgery that is low level law work. Soon, however, he's drawn into a pro-bono case that takes all of his time - the unbillable hours of the title - and serves to fundamentally change his view of law practice.

The case in question involved Mario Rocha, a young man who was convicted of murder but was, quite obviously to all but the prosecution, innocent. The details of the case are fascinating, as is the story of Graham's involvement with it. His writing is crisp and draws you right in. I really enjoyed it.

And it made me really glad I didn't go to law school.

Familiarity

Her neck.

Her voice.

Her left heel.

The way she walks.

The way she smells.

The way she looked deep into my eyes. And laughed.

All this stays with me. But only the small unframed photo, buried at the bottom of my jewelry box, remains.
