Exchange Student

Back in high school we had one exchange student each year, My senior year, our school hosted Silvia Callirgos from Peru. I wondered if, through the miracle of the internet, I could find out what she's up to these days. Well, who knew she'd be on YouTube? She shows up most prominently about 3:30 into the piece.

Now if I could just get hold of Russ Siders to translate for me...

Wow. What'd she say? At any rate, she is a psychologist right? She looks exactly the same!

Hey Neil! What a great find! Yes, Silvia is what they call a psicomotriz, a psychologist specializing in helping children develop motor skills. Thanks for sharing this blast from the past with me!

I wanted to correct and expand upon my previous comment about Silvia and her work. She is a psicomotricista (psychomotorcist, but not the kind on LA freeways!). Anyway, her specialty is in working with children who are chronic bed wetters. Her technique incorporates free play and physical activity to give the child a sense of space, freedom, and security, thus enabling parent and child come at the "wee wee factor" through the back door. Neat! Sorry I didn't get all those specifics the first time around. I was too thrilled to see and hear Silvia after 26 years!
